The Fall Harvest Orchard Story....
Curt & Helen Peterson were married in 1963. After over a decade of the urban life in Minneapolis, they bought the property that is now Fall Harvest Orchard, and moved to Delano with their two children, Tony & Sarah, in 1976. At that time the farm was a bit run down to say the least - ask Helen how she felt upon seeing snow in the living room of the farmhouse the first time she saw the place.
Over the next 20 years, Curt continued to work as a social worker for Hennepin County, Helen stayed home with the kids (taking part time jobs closer to home as they got older), and together they updated the farmhouse and buildings and learned how to grow crops and raise livestock on their little piece of land.
In the 90s, they got a wild idea about planting a few apple trees. Curt retired from the world of social work, their friends Jim Christensen and Charlie Hogan (also former social workers from the county) joined in on the fun, one thing led to another, and Fall Harvest Orchard was born.
What started as a self-serve fruit and produce stand on the side of the driveway has turned into a bustling seasonal business that attracts thousands of customers a year. We thank all of our loyal customers who have been coming to see us every season, and welcome new friends who have just discovered our little piece of heaven on earth. We wouldn't be here without your support.
We also need to thank our wonderful employees who help to make Fall Harvest a place where everyone can feel like a kid again.
